The North Carolina State Supreme Court adopted the Plan for Certification of Paralegals on October 6, 2004. The Plan is regulated though the NC State Bar - NCPA does not regulate it. If you have any questions about how to apply or what the requirements are to become certified, please visit the North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification’s website at www.nccertifiedparalega.org or email Tara Wilder, Assistant Director of the Board of Paralegal Certification at twilder@ncbar.gov.
North Carolina Certification
The North Carolina State Supreme Court adopted the Plan for Certification of Paralegals on October 6, 2004. The North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification began accepting applications on July 1, 2005. There is an initial application fee of $125 with a $50 annual renewal fee. You may view and copy the application and the plan (27N.C.A.C Section 01G) through the following link to http://www.nccertifiedparalegal.gov. Attention: North Carolina certification is not a function of the North Carolina Paralegal Association. If you wish to apply for certification, contact the NC State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification.
National Certification
The National Association of Legal Assistants offers two credentials - the Certified Legal Assistant/Certified Paralegal credential, and an advanced credential - the Advanced Paralegal Certification - for those who have already obtained the CLA/CP credential.
